Woodnest is a collection of four treehouses high in the forest above Odda in western Norway. They sit among the pines with the Hardangerfjord spread out below. The only way to reach them is on foot, along a steep trail that leads into the stillness of the woods. What started as a private treehouse built high in a single pine has become four carefully placed nests. The walk up is the beginning of the stay.

Built to settle into the forest.

Designed by Norwegian architects Helen & Hard, each treehouse is shaped and positioned to sit lightly among the trees. Warm timber interiors and broad windows keep the surrounding bark, branches and mountain light close, while the forest’s shifting light and colours subtly shape the atmosphere inside.

Four nests above the fjord.

Two Originals sit in the heart of the forest. Two Mountaintops are set higher on the mountainside, with broader views across the fjord.

The forest changes with the year, from spring green and long summer evenings to autumn colour and winter snow. With the changing light over the Hardangerfjord, each season brings its own setting for rest among the trees.

The climb is part of the stay.

The steep route follows a forest path with stone, timber and steel steps. Depending on the chosen nest and the conditions, the climb takes between 20 and 60 minutes. The climb itself marks the transition from everyday life to a quieter pace and renewed focus. As the town recedes below, attention shifts to the stillness of the woods.

When the forest turns to night.

As daylight fades over the fjord, the treehouses become quiet points of warm light among the darkening trees. On clear nights, the stars come into view. Though the northern lights are rare here, their appearance above the fjord is an exceptional sight.
